Prospect Centre to sponsor a runner for Hull to Sierra Leone Hope Alive Tour

2nd February 2017

Prospect Centre will be giving one local runner the opportunity to take part in the trip of a lifetime by funding a 650-mile charity challenge taking place across the UK and Sierra Leone.

The Hope Alive Tour, created by Operation Orphan, is a nine-day adventure taking place across six cities and two continents. It will see 12 runners take on the equivalent of three marathons, run in relay, across six cities with links to anti-slavery campaigning, before finishing at Operation Orphan’s partner Heaven Homes in Sierra Leone, where they will meet some of the vulnerable children they are raising funds for.

Operation Orphan aims to provide holistic care to orphaned children around the world, by ensuring they have long-term access to education, healthcare and psychological support. Because the organisation’s administration costs are underwritten, every penny donated goes straight to its projects.

Prospect Centre is offering to sponsor a runner to take part in this incredible event, and will cover all expenses including flights, visa, insurance, accommodation and other related costs. Anyone can apply for sponsorship, but due to the nature of the tour it is recommended that applicants have experience of distance running.

Maria Kamper, Centre Manager for Prospect Centre, said: “The Hope Alive Tour will begin at Prospect Centre, where the runners will be setting off for the journey of their lives. To highlight this amazing event, we are sponsoring one of the runners, who will represent us on the tour.”

“It will be an incredible journey for the runners, and we will be creating a film style documentary showing their experiences and how they are supporting the Ebola orphans at Heaven Homes.”

“Operation Orphan is a charity that helps the most vulnerable children in 16 different countries around the world. Prospect Centre is proud to be supporting The Hope Alive Tour and we are looking forward to choosing a local runner to take part in this wonderful initiative.”

Michael Scott, from Operation Orphan said: “Heaven Homes is a local charity in Sierra Leone that gives Ebola orphans a safe and loving home.”

“All funds raised from The Hope Alive Tour will help provide vital services to these and other orphaned and deprived children to improve their quality of life. Every £500 raised for Operation Orphan covers the monthly living costs of 25 children, so we are grateful for any donations received.”

The Hope Alive Tour will begin in Hull, which was chosen as it is the birthplace of William Wilberforce, leader of the abolition of the slave trade movement, and known for his humanitarian work in Sierra Leone. It will continue across the cities of Cambridge, Nottingham, Liverpool and London, before the runners fly out to Sierra Leone, continuing in Freetown and finishing at the Heaven Homes.

The tour takes place between the 1st to the 9th April 2017. The deadline for entries with Prospect Centre funding is Friday 24th February. To enter visit https://www.prospectshoppingcentre.co.uk/contact-us/
