A Wi-Fi hub will provide free internet access for thousands of shoppers in an initiative set up by a popular city centre retail destination after partnering with a well-known network provider.
Visitors to Prospect Shopping Centre will now be able to check social media and retailer apps, access emails and browse the web free of charge thanks to a collaboration between owner New River Retail and The Cloud.
The addition of this multi-channel shopping experience to the centre complements the ongoing refurbishment works, thanks to a six-figure investment that is transforming the entire shopping experience there, ahead of City of Culture 2017.
Lee Appleton, centre manager, said: “Shoppers now expect to be able to access Wi-Fi free of charge and often use it to compare prices online before purchasing. We feel free Wi-Fi is a great addition, as the centre is also becoming renowned for leisure related activities such as eating out and attending events.
The community-focused centre, has changed dramatically in recent months, introducing new brands, eateries and updating the overall aesthetics of the centre to give it a modern, improved feel.
Mr Appleton added: “The centre has undergone a huge refurbishment, just in time for the thousands of people we expect to visit in 2017 due to the City of Culture title. We aim to completely revitalise the shopping experience for our customers. Adding Wi-Fi will allow retailers in the centre to be able to engage with the customers, given that people shop online and in a multi-channel way”.
An estimated eight million people every day pass through The Cloud network by visiting one of its partners, including major outlets like Greggs, which is also based at Prospect Shopping Centre.
This addition to the centre, which has an annual footfall of 8.2 million, will help the centre to remain competitive with other shopping centres in the Hull area.
Lucy Mitchell, Marketing Manager at NewRiver Retail, said: “We understand that people now shop in a multi-channel way and this access will enable our retailers to better engage with customers. Customer access to Wi-Fi will soon be expected rather than a nice to have and it something that we are committed to delivering across our portfolio.”
